The Boar’s Head receives hundreds of donation requests each year and make the majority of our contributions to regional organizers. In order to assist you in requesting a donation, please click here for full guideline information. Each request will receive consideration based upon the policies and procedures established by The Boar’s Head Donations Review Committee.
In addition to our annual donations, we participate in a number of local events, such as:
- Alzheimer's Association - not-for-profit of choice for 2009-2010.
The mission of the Central and Western Virginia Chapter of the Alzheimer's Association is to eliminate the incurability of Alzheimer's disease through the advancement of research, and to enhance the care and support for individuals, their families, and caregivers affected by Alzheimer's disease. There are 5.3 million Americans with Alzheimer's disease, and it is the 6th leading cause of death in the United States. - Annual Turkey Trot - bringing together approximately 1,300 local Charlottesville residents on Thanksgiving for a unique combination of a 5K road race, costume party, and baby jogger parade. November of 2008 was the 27th Anniversary of this event. Since its inception, The Boar's Head has proudly raised approximately $600,000 to benefit the University of Virginia Children's Hospital.
“This is truly a unique, community-oriented event,” said Mark Lorenzoni, Co-Owner of Ragged Mountain Running Store. “It’s always inspiring to see the turnout each year, especially when you see multi-generational family members participating together. What brings me back each year, though, is donating my time and help to an event that benefits a charity like the UVA Children’s Hospital.”
- Annual Bill Howard Golf Tournament - in May of 2009, Birdwood hosted this event to benefit one of our primary philantropies, the Alzheimer's Association, for the 11th year.
- Special Olympics - for many years, this has remained a main philanthropic event for the golf course and Sports Club at The Boar's Head. They organize, host, and coach the program.
- Boyd Tinsley Foundation - offering host facilities and sponsorship of the Boyd Tinsley USTA Tennis Championships, as well as offering facilities and instruction for children during our summer program.
- Habitat for Humanity - The Boar's Head team contributed time and money to the Habitat for Humanity, our non-profit of choice for 2008.
- Salvation Army Angel Tree
- Annual Motorcycle Ride - in April of 2009, we held our 4th Annual Motorcycle Ride to benefit one of our primary philantrophies, the Alzheimer's Association.
- Virginia Blood Services Blood Drive
