2014 Festival of Squash
September 18-21, 2014

Join us at McArthur Squash Center (MSC) in September for our second Festival of Squash. Our 2013 inaugural event was a huge hit with pro players, amateur players, Boar's Head Sports Club members, and fans of squash all over, and this year promises to be even better.

Our Festival of Squash Features 5 great tournaments running simultaneously:

  • Ilex Construction PSA Tournament for professional singles players on the world tour. With an increase of $10,000 in prize money (to  $25,000) we hope to see the main draw include a couple of player ranked inside the world top 20. Click here for more information on the tournament page of PSA's website.
  • UVa Challenger SDA Tournament for professional hard ball doubles players on the world tour. Once again we are the opening event of the season for the players on the worlds double tour and our prize fund of $15,000 should ensure that the majority of last year's participants are back again. Click here for more information on the tournament page of SDA's website.
  • McArthur Squash Center Junior Silver Tournament for junior squash players. This United States Squash sanctioned event is open to junior squash players, boys and girls, from U11 through to U19. Click here for more information on the tournament page of US Squash's website. Entry for this event is already open.
  • McArthur Squash Center Squash Festival Tournament for amateur adult players of all skill levels. Last year's adult event had over 100 participants with almost everyone in the Charlottesville squash community turning out to play we hope to have even greater participation levels this year. Click here for more information on the tournament page of US Squash's website. Entry for this event is already open.
  • Pro-Am Hardball Doubles Tournament. Eight of our SDA pro's will team up with 8 lucky amateurs for this fun event. To claim one of the 8 amateur spots available requires a minimum $1,000 donation to the UVa squash program.

Private Squash Lessons
We have two options for you when it comes to private coaching lessons. Now that our Director of Squash Mark Allen has settled in, he has some time available to take on a limited number of private clients. Lessons with Mark are priced at $80 for 45 minutes.

We have also just taken on our first assistant squash pro Stephen O' Dwyer. Stephen is head pro at the Westwood Club in Richmond, but will be available for squash lessons at MSC on a Monday, Friday and Saturday. Lessons with Stephen are priced at $65 per 45 minutes.

About Stephen O'Dwyer, Assistant Squash Professional:
Originally from Co. Tipperary in Ireland, Stephen grew up playing squash at the early age of 9 after falling in love with the sport following his first junior clinic. He went to Rockwell College for high school and the Limerick Institute of Technology for college.

As a junior player, Stephen represented his local club, province and country as a member of the Irish junior national team. He was Irish junior national champion in 2003, competed for Ireland at the Home Internationals Tournament 2003-2006, played for eight consecutive provincial titles from 2001-2008 and won numerous titles and the British and Irish junior circuits. Stephen has been coaching in the US since 2010. He is currently the Head pro at the Westwood Club, Richmond, VA and competes at a high level in tournaments all over the country. While maintaining his connection to the Westwood Club in Richmond, Stephen is very much looking forward to working with the Boar's Head club and with Mark Allen. Stephen is especially excited for the opportunity to work individually with both adult and junior players to improve their squash game and raise the profile of squash in the Charlottesville area.

The best way to book your first private lesson with either coach is by contacting Mark.
