Birdwood Golf

You don't need a sweet golf swing or a low handicap to appreciate sensational golf at Birdwood

Birdwood is a golf course rich in history. Its verdant hills were part of a 1739 “upland wilderness” land patent, one of the earliest in the colony. In 1819 Birdwood Pavilion was constructed by the same craftsmen who built the Rotunda at the University of Virginia. Over time, the property’s prized farmland became a top producer of Hereford cattle and prize winning show horses.

The University of Virginia acquired the property in 1974, enlisting architect Lindsay Ervin in 1984 to transform Birdwood into the par-72 championship golf course it is today.

Birdwood Golf Course is a proud member of the Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary Program, created and administered by Audubon International . Under the program we are striving toward best management practices in environmental planning, wildlife and habitat management, chemical use reduction and safety, water conservation, water quality management, and outreach and education. Our efforts in environmental stewardship were recently recognized as we became certified as an Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary.

Spectacular Blue Ridge views. Invigorating vistas. And 18 holes of challenging golf. No wonder Washington Golf Monthly calls Birdwood one of the Mid-Atlantic’s top “must play” courses.
